Base Camp Bakery is a queer Korean-Chicana owned artisanal bakery focused on naturally leavened bread made with organic whole grains grown in California. Each loaf is crafted with integrity, experience, and mindfulness in order to bring you the highest quality bread. We look forward to seeing you at one of our farmers market stalls!
WHERE TO FIND US
Base Camp Bakery was founded by Chase and Ayla in 2017. They named the business Base Camp Bakery because that is what they wanted to offer the East Bay community one day. A place to gather. A home away from home. A place to meet locals and travelers alike. A home for live music, art, family, and inspiration. A cozy, welcoming, joyful space centered around bread. This is still the vision of the current owner/operator, Lorena, who took over Base Camp Bakery in May 2023.
The current owner, Lorena, is a seasoned bread baker from the Bay Area and holds a B.S. in Fermentation Science. She hopes one day to find a brick and mortar for Base Camp Bakery to call home in Oakland, where it all began.
We're always striving for improvement and looking to nourish our community with locally grown grain and produce. We want to tell you our story through food and show you our most authentic selves. We believe in following your dreams and building community while doing so. We are proud to say that Base Camp Bakery is a queer woman of color owned bakery.
Base Camp Bakery is working towards becoming a sustainable, equitable workplace. We want to challenge the status quo of the baking industry. Currently we start employees at $20/hour (although most employees make more than that), and offer 3 weeks of PTO. We're working on obtaining health and retirement benefits so that our passionate, talented bakers and front of house staff can turn what they love to do in to a career.
